About demonteMAG

An independent magazine for people who would rather understand something than skim it.

demonteMAG is written and run by one person, not a media company. There is no newsroom, no investor, and no editorial board deciding what gets covered. That is the whole premise: a small publication can follow a subject because it is interesting rather than because it performs.

What we write about

60+ articles across 13 subjects, from film analysis and psychology to visa rules and where to eat in Penang. The thread connecting them is not a topic, it is a posture: take the reader seriously, do the reading, and get to the part that actually helps.

How we write

Most publications in this space are written to rank rather than to be read. We try to do the opposite, which comes down to a few rules:

  • Specifics over padding. A travel guide should tell you the stalls close on Mondays, not that the city has a rich culinary heritage.
  • The argument comes first. Products get chosen after a piece is written, never before, so the writing is never bent toward something we can sell.
  • Mistakes get corrected. Openly, and quickly. If you find one, tell us.
  • No sponsored articles. Nobody pays to be covered here, and nobody is going to.

How it pays for itself

Three ways, all of them visible rather than hidden. Advertising on the site, Amazon affiliate links inside a clearly labelled box at the end of some articles, and our own digital products in the shop.

None of them decide what gets written. The detail on affiliate links, including how recommendations get picked, is on the affiliate disclosure page. What advertising does to your data is in the privacy policy.

The newsletter

One email a week, with the pieces worth your time and the occasional thing that never made it into an article. Free, one click to leave, and your address goes nowhere else. Subscribe here.
