The Google Stack: Setup and Management

Most guides cover one of these tools. The problem is never one tool, it is that four of them have to agree with each other. This guide sets them up in the order that avoids losing data you cannot backfill, shows how to deploy Analytics through Tag Manager so you never touch site code again, explains the trigger failures that silently break conversion tracking, and gives you a monthly routine that takes about an hour. Written for people who own the site rather than agencies who bill for it.

Frequently asked questions

In what order should I set these up?

Search Console, then Tag Manager, then Analytics 4 deployed through Tag Manager, then Google Ads. Search Console and GA4 cannot backfill history, so every day you delay is data you never get.

Do I need to be spending on Google Ads?

No. A dormant Ads account still gives you access to Keyword Planner data, and the Ads section is useful whenever you do start.

Is this for beginners or advanced users?

It assumes you can follow setup steps but not that you know why the order matters. The value is in the sequencing and the silent failure modes, which catch experienced people too.
