๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ Tired and Burnt Out Are Not the Same Thing

Tiredness responds to rest. You take a weekend, you sleep, and you come back roughly restored.

Burnout does not work like that, and that is the clearest way to tell them apart. It has three parts rather than one: exhaustion, growing cynicism about the work, and a sense that what you do makes no difference. The second and third are the ones people miss, because exhaustion is the only part that announces itself.

Answer for the last month generally, not the worst week you can remember. The exceptional week tells you less than the ordinary one.

๐Ÿงฏ Why Rest Alone Often Does Not Fix It

The instinct is to book a holiday. It rarely works, because burnout is usually a mismatch between what a situation demands and what you get back from it, and a week away changes neither side.

What tends to move it is reducing the load rather than getting better at carrying it. That usually means a conversation with someone who can change your workload, which is harder than buying a productivity book and considerably more effective.

More on the underlying framing in why work-life balance is the wrong goal and how to protect the time you do have.
